At Vita Health Group we recognise the positive impact volunteering has on both colleagues and the wider community. The volunteer support scheme (VSS) gives employees access to 1 day of paid leave per year to undertake suitable volunteering activities of your choosing.
Below, are a few volunteering ideas:
Mind volunteers play a huge part in everything they do. Volunteering at Mind can be an incredibly rewarding and valuable experience with the chance to meet lots of people and gain new skills as a volunteer in a Mind shop – there are more than 100 shops to choose from.
Volunteers make a huge contribution to the work the RSPCA do to prevent cruelty, promote kindness to and alleviate the suffering of animals. You don't need any special skills, and volunteering in one of their shops will enable you to meet lots of different people, be a valued member of a team and learn new skills.
Whether serving customers in one of their charity shops, doing essential admin in the office or working directly with people experiencing homelessness, Crisis volunteers make a huge difference. Crisis welcome people from all backgrounds and their volunteers include young professionals, retired workers, students, asylum seekers, people with lived experience of homelessness, and more.
Whether you're looking to help in the great outdoors, work with the public or get up close and personal with the houses, take a look at what's happening at a National Trust site near you.
If you enjoy the outdoors, want to learn new skills, and meet new people then get involved with your local forest. Find forestry volunteering opportunities near you through Forestry England’s volunteering programme.
Keep Britain Tidy cannot achieve its goals alone and this is where its volunteers come in, helping them care for the environment on your doorstep. You can join the thousands of people who support their work by volunteering, whether it’s joining their #LitterHeroes (army of litter pickers), becoming an assessor for their Eco-Schools, or getting involved in one of their regional projects.
Tree for Cities run tree planting events from October to March (as this gives the trees the best chance of survival). They hold several large planting events throughout the planting season so there will be lots of opportunities to get involved.
Volunteers are the beating heart of Help for Heroes and becoming one is so rewarding. Make new friends and learn new skills, all while helping veterans and their families to live well after military service. Opportunities range from supporting at local collections or helping at fundraising events near you
Volunteer with the National Autistic Society and help create a society that works for autistic people. They have a variety of volunteering roles, from getting involved in activities at local branches, to helping with administration, or sharing advice and offering support to autistic people who are socially isolated.
Do It is a digital volunteering hub, that is on a mission to help millions of people do good things and feel happier and healthier from it. Find volunteering roles near you, from one off events to more formal roles, register to volunteer in your local community.
CharityJob is the UK's largest and most specialised volunteer board. They offer over 2,000 volunteering roles around the UK, so find an opportunity that means something to you.
NCVO is committed to supporting, enabling and celebrating volunteering in all its diversity. Their network of Volunteer Centres is often a good place to start looking for volunteering opportunities in your local area. They can find out what you're interested in doing and try to match you with a suitable volunteering role with a local charity or voluntary organisation.

“Over the festive period I took full advantage of the Volunteering Scheme and volunteered at Bury's Stray Cat Fund for the day! I spent the day clearing out the cat pens, preparing and distributing their food, assisting with some adoptions, and spending time with some new additions.
This was a great way to give back to the community and make a difference in some animals lives! #AdoptDontShop”

“I volunteered with our partners at Hartcliffe City Farm with the wonderful Rosie HumeHill and both of us had fantastic day. We learnt lots about how a market garden runs, as well as spending time with interesting people, having a delicious farm cooked lunch and we got to bring home some veg at the end of the day.
It was such a great break from my normal role and I felt a real sense of accomplishment at the end of the day.”
